Get Your Heart Scan Early!

Having spent more than three decades diagnosing, treating and fighting heart disease and stroke, I have to admit that the best approach to coronary artery disease is early detection and early management. This would help preventing disease progression which is associated with adverse events such as heart attacks, strokes, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease and death! After all, coronary angioplasty or stent deployment to treat coronary artery blockages will only push the plaque to the side of the artery to make a bigger lumen for more blood flow and thus relief of angina or effort-induced chest pain. Stents or even Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery does not prevent heart attacks. Heart bypass surgery can have a survival advantage over medical therapy in special cases with critical coronary anatomy and weak heart muscle.
